Part 2: The Promise
The older grey-haired officer froze the moment he heard the girl's final words.
"The Kenton family... they're going to kill my mom and my sister."
His eyes widened. For a few seconds, complete silence filled the military base.
The officer slowly stepped closer and looked at the medals in the wooden frame. His trembling fingers gently touched the large blue star medal.
"Raymond White..." he whispered. "I served with him."
The younger officer looked at him in surprise.
"You knew him, sir?"
The older officer nodded, his voice heavy with emotion.
"He saved my life during the war. The explosion should have killed me, but Raymond pushed me out of the way. He sacrificed himself so I could live."
The young girl looked up with tears still flowing.
"So... you remember my grandpa?"
"I remember every word he ever said," the officer replied. "He always told me, 'If anything ever happens to my family, never let them stand alone.'"
The officer removed his military cap and saluted the framed medals.
Every soldier standing nearby immediately followed, raising their hands in respect.
The little girl burst into tears.
For the first time in months, she felt someone was finally listening.
"What is your name, child?" the officer asked softly.
"Emily."
"Emily... from this moment on, you are under our protection."
The younger officer immediately contacted military headquarters.
Within minutes, several military vehicles rolled out of the base.
The officers quickly learned the shocking truth.
Emily's mother had refused to sell the family's small piece of land to the wealthy Kenton family. The land contained a memorial dedicated to Raymond White, and Emily's mother had promised never to let it be destroyed.
The local authorities had ignored every complaint.
Now Emily's mother and older sister were trapped inside their home while armed men surrounded the property.
The older officer clenched his fists.
"Move out," he ordered.
"No hero's family will be abandoned while I'm still wearing this uniform."
Military jeeps raced toward the White family home.
Inside the small house, Emily's mother held her frightened teenage daughter close.
Outside, several black SUVs blocked every exit.
The leader of the Kenton family smirked.
"You've got one last chance."
"Sign the papers."
"Or this ends today."
The terrified mother quietly shook her head.
"This land belongs to Raymond White."
"I'll die before I betray his sacrifice."
The man laughed cruelly.
"Then prepare to die."
At that exact moment...
The sound of military sirens echoed across the valley.
Every head turned.
Dozens of military vehicles appeared at the end of the road.
The Kenton family's smiles instantly disappeared.
The older officer stepped out of the lead jeep.
His eyes burned with fury.
"You picked the wrong family to threaten."
